Apple Watch leads customer preferences in the USA

Counterpoint Research has just released its latest Consumer Lens study focusing on USA smartwatch consumers. This analysis uncovers the factors influencing smartwatch purchasing decisions with a key understanding of consumer interest in Apple Watch features. Included exploration includes demographic breakouts including age, income, and occupation to better understand potential smartwatch customers.

Boston based research analyst, Maurice Klaehne highlighted, "Apple was the top smartwatch brand last year. With the Apple Watch Series 4 the company further strengthens its position as a preferred smartwatch brand for a consumer's next purchase. 75% of potential Apple Watch buyers said they will choose a Series 4 watch in the next six months."

Commenting on Apple Watch Series 4 features, Pavel Naiya, senior analyst said, "The Apple Watch Series 4 is a significant improvement from the previous generation with innovative features like ECG, fall monitor, haptic feedback. LTE connectivity captured the highest consumer interest followed by the faster S4 chipset and improved heart rate sensor. 50% of potential Apple Watch buyers are interested in buying an LTE version."

Mr. Naiya further added, "According to the findings, Apple has successfully established itself as a fashion brand. Six out of ten respondents cited design as a key reason for choosing an Apple Watch; however, consumers are not very decisive on the color preference so far."

"The Apple Store is the top preferred channel for Apple Watch purchases followed by Amazon and Best Buy. This is likely driven by iPhone power users opting for the familiar Apple Store," says San Diego based research director, Jeff Fieldhack. He goes on to state that "However, we believe actual purchases will likely vary due to many factors including existing offers, availability of variants, and customer convenience."

Other Takeaways:
The top three brands (Apple, Samsung, Fitbit) captured 80% of the potential consumer interest as the preferred brands for a consumer's next purchase. LG, Garmin, and Fossil had single digit percentage share.
The high price point and the requirement to own an iPhone are the two biggest barriers that limit purchase decisions for the new Apple Watch.
Health and fitness tracking and quick access to notification are the two main use cases for smartwatches as of now. However, use cases like listening to music and the ability to leave your phone behind are pushing smartwatches towards creating a standalone device category.

Announcing the Next Generation of Educational Technology: An Adaptive Play-Based Phonics System That Supports All Children on Their Reading Journey

Dedicated to improving the all-important literacy development process of young children, Square Panda, (https://squarepanda.com/), has introduced the second generation of its award-winning phonics system featuring a new meta-app learning adventure, SquareLand, and the new Square Panda Phonics Playset 2.0.

SquareLand is an exploratory adventure through a world of play where two primary characters, Panda and Cameo, guide children step-by-step through adaptive reading curriculum. Children explore worlds of learning as their fun friends help them learn letters, letter sounds, decode written words and develop skills in oral expression. With SquareLand, children experience playtime within a multisensory environment while learning valuable skills, such as letter-sound association, spelling, rhyming, word construction, and comprehension—with every child placed on an adaptive path and progressing at his or her own pace. A stream of cloud-based SquareLand content, developed by the Square Panda team in three international offices, is continuously expanding the learning experience. Accompanying the launch of SquareLand is the new Square Panda Phonics Playset 2.0, which supports the multisensory UI. The new playset is iPad and Android tablet compatible, with a library of free learning games available through the App store and Google Play.

According to Square Panda CEO and Co-Founder Andy Butler, SquareLand builds on Square Panda's mission of empowering all children with the self-confidence gained through early fluency. "We are passionate about fixing the literacy problem because reading is about more than just reading, it's about self-esteem," said Butler. "Unfortunately, the ability to read is the first measure our society applies in judging a child's potential, and the first step in fixing this is to realize that, especially for young learners, one size does not fit all. Square Panda personalizes the learning experience in real time to maximize both education and enjoyment."

Butler was inspired to found Square Panda by his journey to find resources for his daughter, who has dyslexia. He discovered that most children, not only those struggling with dyslexia, need support when learning to read and that early intervention is essential.

Every child faces the critical task of moving from "learning to read" to "reading to learn" by the third grade. According to a 2016 U.S. Department of Education study, 64 percent of fourth graders in the U.S. perform below proficiency levels in reading. Incorporating the latest neurological research of unique circuitry development within young brains, SquareLand's personalized, data-centric system customizes the learning experience for each child, helping them master reading efficiently and painlessly. The Square Panda Parent portal lets users track their child's progress and provides real-time analytics that identify areas of difficulty and next steps.

SquareLand and the Square Panda Phonics Playset 2.0 support early readers in multiple ways:

A unique land of educational play keeps children engaged through a world of games while collecting real-time data.
Interactive gameplay and engaging characters support increased attention and focus, including for children with learning differences.
Adaptive learning supports each child's learning patterns and reinforces the curriculum in a playful way.
Multisensory play with Square Panda's Smart Letters, which children touch, feel, and place on the playset. Preliminary results show 40 percent reduction in screen time while playing Square Panda multisensory games compared to digital only games.
Personalization customizes the experience to optimize learning.
Free downloadable games keep early readers in the optimal learning zone, challenged but not overwhelmed.
Built-in rest periods reduce any frustration or meltdowns.
Data collection and analytics keep track of progress and customize the games based on each child's learning experience.

Square Panda has launched a Kickstarter campaign for the SquareLand and the Phonics Playset 2.0, ( https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/squarepanda/square-panda-phonics-system-20-for-kids-learning-t ), to spread awareness among parents, educators, and the investment community.

ARTISTMARK, Critically Acclaimed iPad Artist, Declares Apple's New iPad Pro Amazes - "Sparks the next Chapter of The Digital Art Revolution"

"The magic of Digital Art on iPad is that the canvass will always be in its infancy. Blending the Apple Pencil with iPad has created the most powerful force driving the Digital Art Movement," says ARTISTMARK. "The New iPad Pro and magnetic Apple Pencil takes our emerging art form to incredible new heights." ARTISTMARK stated "The next Andy Warhol will be a Digital Artist. This would not be possible without the iPad."

ARTISTMARK's Experimental POP - Leading the Digital Art Revolution
As detailed in a recent article published by Audra Lambert, art business journal (https://abj.artrepreneur.com/artistmark-leads-the-digital-pop-art-revolution), Apple iPad is what is behind the unique digital pop art practice of ARISTMARK, whose critically acclaimed Experimental POP digital mixed media exclusively utilizes the Apple iPad. On the heels of major museum retrospectives of artists such as David Hockney celebrating art made using iPad technology, ARTISTMARK hits a high note creating artwork that leads the next generation style of digital mixed media by transforming images into a unique multi filtered form of intelligent iPad art.

"iPad is not just a device – it is a brilliant, magical canvas. What makes the iPad so compelling is how it spans a fascinating convergence between imagination, art, and technology. Creating with the iPad is a pure, fresh, originative process that transcends into a limitless and costless universal canvas – accessible to anyone with a natural curiosity and craving to create. Over time as applications (the brushes of technological change) are replaced, the artwork created today will no longer be able to be composed in its current form. To the contrary, when a person draws or paints on paper or other medium, it is just that and will always be that way. That makes the allure of experimenting with art on the iPad so enticing – and unlike any other artistic endeavor in the world."

ARTISTMARK continues, "When I create with my iPad I dance without a care in the world. It is an intimate, frictionless, and prolific creative experience. When I first attempted to embrace composing art on my iPad, I thought my creations would be disrupted and negatively impacted as a result of not having the physical sensations of feeling the brush, hearing the sound of my strokes on the canvas, or seeing textures illuminated by the gallery lights. I was pleasantly surprised that this was not the case and celebrated the profound positive impact it had on my artwork and my audience."

"My iPad also provides 100% flexibility to create artwork anytime, anywhere. I take it with me everywhere in NYC and when I travel. This allows me to create at any instant of inspiration. I never experienced anything like this carrying pencils and paper. At this point, I would find it extremely difficult to create artwork in any other way."

iPhone Users Spend $101 Every Month on Tech Purchases, Nearly Double of Android Users, According to a Survey Conducted by Slickdeals

Slickdeals, the leading crowdsourced shopping platform, asked 1,000 iPhone users and 1,000 Android users about their unique behaviors, lifestyle choices, personality traits, and spending habits.

In today's advanced digital age, mobile technology has developed from merely a means of communication to being fully integrated into every aspect of our lives. With both iPhone and Android users looking at their phones for at least 25% of the day, it is sensible to infer that one's choice of phone and mobile usage can be quite reflective of who they are.

A survey, conducted by Slickdeals, revealed distinct differences in spending habits amongst respondents, heavily influenced by the relationship between income and product prices. Typically, those with higher incomes can comfortably afford, and are likely to purchase, iPhones due to the fact that Apple products normally cost more than Androids.

iPhone users make an average salary of $53,251 and are more likely to splurge on commodity items than those with Androids. On the contrary, Android users make an average salary of $37,040, making it a plausible reason as to why they may be drawn to the cheaper prices of Android products. iPhone users also reported that they usually spend an average of $117 every month on clothes, whereas Android users would spend about only $62 per month. Additionally, iPhone users will shell out $101 on technology and $83 on makeup products. For Android users, their average monthly expenses come out to about $51 for tech-related items and $40 for beauty. They are also self-admittedly more frugal and inclined to frequently seek out deals and discounts.

Said Slickdeals CEO Josh Meyers, "This survey indicates that Android users are generally more frugal than their iPhone counterparts, and on the hunt for savings when shopping. Meanwhile, iPhone users tend to spend more, particularly on items related to self-image such as clothing and cosmetics."

Aside from being highly money-conscious, the survey suggested that Android users are not as attached to their phones as iPhone users can be. Those with iPhones have almost double the amount of selfies (12), screen time (about 5 hours), and texts sent per day (58) in comparison to Android owners (7, about 4 hours, and 26 respectively). To put those numbers into perspective, iPhone users are spending up to five whole hours a day, or 76 full days a year, looking at their phones in some capacity.

Meyers added, "Overall, we've seen a rapid shift from desktop to mobile shopping for consumers. With people spending at least five hours a day on their phone, continued migration towards mobile seems almost inevitable. Here at Slickdeals, the leading crowdsourced shopping platform, our mobile app is at the forefront of this transition, empowering consumers to make better shopping decisions at home or on-the-go."

Although it may appear as if scrolling through social media for at least four hours a day means iPhone users are glued to their phones more than anything else, results indicated otherwise. iPhone users reported that they enjoy going out, meeting people, and experiencing new things, whereas Android users prefer to spend their time indoors with the action on the screen. Hence, iPhone users have a tendency to be more adventurous and extroverted than Android users. It was also suggested that iPhone users are generally happier than Android users, which is likely attributed to the fact that iPhone and Android users generally appreciate different things and have contrasting personality traits.

NASA Retires Kepler Space Telescope, Passes Planet-Hunting Torch

After nine years in deep space collecting data that indicate our sky to be filled with billions of hidden planets – more planets even than stars – NASA's Kepler space telescope has run out of fuel needed for further science operations. NASA has decided to retire the spacecraft within its current, safe orbit, away from Earth. Kepler leaves a legacy of more than 2,600 planet discoveries from outside our solar system, many of which could be promising places for life.

"As NASA's first planet-hunting mission, Kepler has wildly exceeded all our expectations and paved the way for our exploration and search for life in the solar system and beyond," said Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator of NASA's Science Mission Directorate in Washington. "Not only did it show us how many planets could be out there, it sparked an entirely new and robust field of research that has taken the science community by storm. Its discoveries have shed a new light on our place in the universe, and illuminated the tantalizing mysteries and possibilities among the stars."

Kepler has opened our eyes to the diversity of planets that exist in our galaxy. The most recent analysis of Kepler's discoveries concludes that 20 to 50 percent of the stars visible in the night sky are likely to have small, possibly rocky, planets similar in size to Earth, and located within the habitable zone of their parent stars. That means they're located at distances from their parent stars where liquid water – a vital ingredient to life as we know it – might pool on the planet surface.

The most common size of planet Kepler found doesn't exist in our solar system – a world between the size of Earth and Neptune – and we have much to learn about these planets. Kepler also found nature often produces jam-packed planetary systems, in some cases with so many planets orbiting close to their parent stars that our own inner solar system looks sparse by comparison.

"When we started conceiving this mission 35 years ago we didn't know of a single planet outside our solar system," said the Kepler mission's founding principal investigator, William Borucki, now retired from NASA's Ames Research Center in California's Silicon Valley. "Now that we know planets are everywhere, Kepler has set us on a new course that's full of promise for future generations to explore our galaxy."

Launched on March 6, 2009, the Kepler space telescope combined cutting-edge techniques in measuring stellar brightness with the largest digital camera outfitted for outer space observations at that time. Originally positioned to stare continuously at 150,000 stars in one star-studded patch of the sky in the constellation Cygnus, Kepler took the first survey of planets in our galaxy and became the agency's first mission to detect Earth-size planets in the habitable zones of their stars.

"The Kepler mission was based on a very innovative design. It was an extremely clever approach to doing this kind of science," said Leslie Livesay, director for astronomy and physics at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, who served as Kepler project manager during mission development. "There were definitely challenges, but Kepler had an extremely talented team of scientists and engineers who overcame them."

Four years into the mission, after the primary mission objectives had been met, mechanical failures temporarily halted observations. The mission team was able to devise a fix, switching the spacecraft's field of view roughly every three months. This enabled an extended mission for the spacecraft, dubbed K2, which lasted as long as the first mission and bumped Kepler's count of surveyed stars up to more than 500,000.

The observation of so many stars has allowed scientists to better understand stellar behaviors and properties, which is critical information in studying the planets that orbit them. New research into stars with Kepler data also is furthering other areas of astronomy, such as the history of our Milky Way galaxy and the beginning stages of exploding stars called supernovae that are used to study how fast the universe is expanding. The data from the extended mission were also made available to the public and science community immediately, allowing discoveries to be made at an incredible pace and setting a high bar for other missions. Scientists are expected to spend a decade or more in search of new discoveries in the treasure trove of data Kepler provided.

"We know the spacecraft's retirement isn't the end of Kepler's discoveries," said Jessie Dotson, Kepler's project scientist at NASA's Ames Research Center in California's Silicon Valley. "I'm excited about the diverse discoveries that are yet to come from our data and how future missions will build upon Kepler's results."

Before retiring the spacecraft, scientists pushed Kepler to its full potential, successfully completing multiple observation campaigns and downloading valuable science data even after initial warnings of low fuel. The latest data, from Campaign 19, will complement the data from NASA's newest planet hunter, the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite, launched in April. TESS builds on Kepler's foundation with fresh batches of data in its search of planets orbiting some 200,000 of the brightest and nearest stars to the Earth, worlds that can later be explored for signs of life by missions, such as NASA's James Webb Space Telescope.

NASA's Ames Research Center in California's Silicon Valley manages the Kepler and K2 missions for NASA's Science Mission Directorate. NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, managed Kepler mission development. Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corporation in Boulder, Colorado, operates the flight system with support from the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics at the University of Colorado in Boulder.

Apple unveils New MacBook Air

Apple unveils MacBook Air with Retina 13.3" display, 50% narrower bezel, wedge design, Touch ID, USB-C ports, no Touch Bar, 8th gen Intel CPU, for $1,199+

Apple today introduced an all-new MacBook Air, bringing a stunning 13-inch Retina display, Touch ID, the latest processors and an even more portable design to the world’s most loved notebook. Delivering the all-day battery life it’s known for, the new MacBook Air is available in three gorgeous finishes — gold, space gray and silver. The most affordable Retina-display Mac ever also includes an Apple-designed keyboard, a spacious Force Touch trackpad, faster SSDs, wide stereo sound, the Apple T2 Security Chip and Thunderbolt 3, making the new MacBook Air the perfect notebook to take with you everywhere you go.

“The first MacBook Air revolutionized Mac with its thin wedge-shaped aluminum design. It forever changed the entire industry for portable computers and became the world’s most loved notebook,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “Redesigning MacBook Air started with a stunning Retina display and all-day battery life, and then we added Touch ID and the Apple T2 Security Chip, the latest processors, incredible sound, the third-generation keyboard and Force Touch trackpad, high speed Thunderbolt 3 ports, and of course macOS Mojave in a beautiful, thinner, lighter, all-aluminum design that a whole new generation of MacBook Air customers are going to love.”

Retina Display Comes to MacBook Air

The new MacBook Air features a stunning 13.3-inch Retina display with over 4 million pixels of resolution so text and images in macOS Mojave look sharp and stunning. And with 48 percent more color than the previous generation, images are more lifelike than ever.1 The new MacBook Air also includes a built-in FaceTime HD camera, which is perfect for Group FaceTime calls with friends and family, as well as a three microphone array for better sound quality when making calls and improved voice recognition for Siri.

Featuring Touch ID and Apple T2 Security Chip

MacBook Air now includes Touch ID — a fingerprint sensor built right into the keyboard — which allows you to conveniently and instantly unlock your MacBook Air, authenticate your identity, and make fast, simple and secure purchases using Apple Pay. To support Touch ID, MacBook Air comes with the Apple T2 Security Chip, which makes your notebook far more secure. The T2’s Secure Enclave protects Touch ID information and also ensures that software loaded during the boot process has not been tampered with. The T2 also features an SSD controller with on-the-fly data encryption for everything stored on the SSD. These allow MacBook Air to offer the most secure boot process and most secure storage of any notebook. T2 also features an always-on processor that enables “Hey Siri,” which lets you make requests to Siri with just your voice for things like finding files or opening an app.

Latest Generation Keyboard and Industry’s Best Trackpad

MacBook Air also features the third-generation Apple-designed keyboard for more precise and responsive typing. Each key is individually backlit using low-power LEDs for more accurate illumination. The new MacBook Air also includes the industry-best Force Touch trackpad, which delivers pressure-sensing capabilities and haptic feedback, and is 20 percent larger than on the previous generation MacBook Air, offering a quieter and more capable trackpad experience.

Fuller, More Immersive Audio Experience

With more advanced speakers and audio processing technology, MacBook Air delivers a higher quality audio experience and wide stereo playback that makes watching movies and listening to music more immersive than ever. MacBook Air also features SSDs up to 1.5TB in capacity, that are up to 60 percent faster than the previous generation and make launching apps and opening files feel snappier and more responsive.

Thunderbolt 3, the Most Versatile Port Ever

MacBook Air now comes with two Thunderbolt 3 ports which allow you to charge your notebook, quickly transfer data via USB and Thunderbolt, output video in three formats and connect to a whole host of devices including external storage, docks for additional ports, 4K and 5K displays, and eGPUs for faster graphics. It’s the most versatile port ever. With over 700 Thunderbolt 3 devices in the ecosystem and growing, along with thousands of USB-C devices, MacBook Air allows you to take advantage of a whole new generation of accessories.

All-New, More Portable Design and The Greenest Mac Ever

The new MacBook Air packs all of these features in a new, distinct wedge-shaped design which is now even more compact and portable, and delivers up to 12 hours of battery life during wireless web use and up to 13 hours of iTunes movie playback.2 Featuring a significantly smaller footprint, the new MacBook Air takes up 17 percent less volume, is 10 percent thinner measuring just .61 inches at its thickest point, and at just 2.75 pounds is a quarter pound lighter than the previous generation.

In addition, the new MacBook Air enclosure is made from a custom, Apple-designed aluminum alloy that enables the use of 100 percent recycled aluminum for the first time, which has the same strength, durability and beautiful finish as the aluminum in all Apple products.3 Using this custom aluminum alloy helps reduce MacBook Air’s carbon footprint by nearly 50 percent, making it the greenest Mac ever.4

Radeon Pro Vega Graphics Coming to MacBook Pro Next Month

Apple also today announced new MacBook Pro graphics options that will bring powerful Radeon Pro Vega graphics to MacBook Pro for the first time. These new graphics options deliver up to 60 percent faster graphics performance for the most demanding video editing, 3D design and rendering workloads.1

macOS Mojave

All new Macs come with macOS Mojave, the latest version of the world’s most advanced desktop operating system, with new features inspired by pros but designed for everyone. Apple unveils New iPad Pro

Apple unveils iPad Pro with no home button, thinner design, smaller bezels, A12X chip, Face ID, no 3.5mm jack, and USB-C; 12.9" for $999+, 11" model for $799+

11-inch and 12.9-inch Models Feature Liquid Retina Display, Powerful A12X Bionic Chip and Face ID

Apple today introduced the new iPad Pro with all-screen design and next-generation performance, marking the biggest change to iPad ever. The all-new design pushes 11-inch and 12.9-inch Liquid Retina displays to the edges of iPad Pro and integrates Face ID to securely unlock iPad with just a glance.1 The A12X Bionic chip with next-generation Neural Engine in iPad Pro outperforms most PC laptops and offers a new USB-C connector, Gigabit-class LTE, and up to 1TB of storage to enable powerful new mobile workflows.2 With over a million apps designed to take advantage of the large Multi-Touch display, including next-generation apps like Photoshop CC on iPad (coming 2019), the new iPad Pro will push what users can do on a computer further than ever before.

A second-generation Apple Pencil magnetically attaches to iPad Pro and wirelessly charges at the same time. A new touch sensor built onto Apple Pencil detects taps, introducing an entirely new way to interact within apps. The new Smart Keyboard Folio features a streamlined design that’s adjustable for added versatility. The new iPad Pro, Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard Folio are available to order starting today and in stores starting Wednesday, November 7.

“The new iPad Pro is a huge step forward for powerful, creative, mobile computing; it has an all-new thinner design, speeds through projects with the super-fast A12X Bionic chip and unlocks with a glance using Face ID in any orientation — while you’re sitting or standing, with iPad Pro on your desk or lap, with the new Smart Keyboard Folio and new Apple Pencil,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “There has never been a mobile device anything like the new iPad Pro; it has a gorgeous edge-to-edge Liquid Retina display that curves into the corners, breakthrough performance that outperforms most laptops, Face ID, support for the new Smart Keyboard Folio and new Apple Pencil, advanced new cameras and sensors for the best AR experiences ever in any device, a high-speed USB-C connector, louder speakers, faster wireless and more, all packed into a thinner device that has all-day battery life and is 25 percent smaller in volume.”

All-New, All-Screen Designs

iPad Pro features the world’s most advanced display — a stunning, edge-to-edge Liquid Retina display with rounded corners that follow the curves of iPad Pro’s unibody enclosure. With precision-milled glass, advanced pixel masking, sub-pixel antialiasing and a new backlight design, the new Liquid Retina display in iPad Pro is Apple’s brightest and most color accurate iPad display, featuring wide color support, True Tone and anti-reflective coating for a natural, accurate viewing experience indoors and out. ProMotion technology automatically adjusts the display refresh rate up to 120Hz for ultra-smooth scrolling and incredible responsiveness on iPad Pro.

The new 11-inch iPad Pro packs a bigger display with more pixels in the same footprint as the 10.5-inch model, yet still weighs just one pound. The new 12.9-inch iPad Pro places the largest display of any iPad into a more portable package — a massive 25 percent reduction in volume.3 Both models are just 5.9 mm thin — the thinnest iPad design ever — making iPad Pro now even easier to take with you.

A12X Bionic and Next-Generation Neural Engine

Built specifically for iPad Pro, the A12X Bionic is the smartest and most powerful chip in a tablet, making even the most demanding computing tasks like editing photos or creating 3D models faster and more responsive. Built on industry-leading seven-nanometer technology, the powerful eight-core A12X Bionic features four performance cores and four efficiency cores for up to 35 percent faster single-core performance and a new performance controller for simultaneous use of all eight cores for an up to 90 percent boost during multi-threaded tasks.3 A seven-core, Apple-designed GPU delivers up to twice the graphics performance for incredibly rich and immersive AR experiences and console-quality graphics. On iPad Pro, the breakthrough performance and capability lasts all day thanks to great 10-hour battery life.

Apple’s next-generation Neural Engine is built for advanced machine learning in everything from photography to AR, completing up to 5 trillion operations per second. This enables fast Face ID, faster plane detection for AR apps and other new features that use real-time machine learning. The Neural Engine is designed to deliver improved performance for Core ML tasks, empowering developers to build apps and new iPad workflows that utilize this highly efficient machine learning engine.

Face ID Comes to iPad

Face ID, the most secure facial authentication system in any tablet or computer, comes to iPad for the first time. Designed to work while holding iPad Pro in any position or while seated using the new Smart Keyboard Folio, Face ID takes advantage of the TrueDepth camera system to accurately map and recognize the face to securely unlock iPad Pro, enable Apple Pay in apps and online and allow users to easily gain access to secure apps. The TrueDepth Camera on iPad Pro also enables Animoji and Memoji.

Best Device for AR

Advanced cameras and sensors and improved four-speaker audio combine with the power of A12X Bionic to turn iPad Pro, with its large viewfinder, into the best device ever for AR. With support for the next generation of AR apps, a new world of AR experiences is possible on iPad, such as measuring the reflection on real-world objects, navigating buildings in 3D and exploring entire universes. Adobe’s Project Aero (coming 2019) will enable creators to design experiences that take AR on iPad even further.

New Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard Folio

The new Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard Folio, available for purchase separately, give iPad Pro users new levels of precision and productivity. The second-generation Apple Pencil magnetically attaches to iPad Pro for pairing and wireless charging. It becomes even more powerful and intuitive as users can select just the right tool or brush with a simple double tap on Apple Pencil within apps like Notes. Powerful apps from leading developers like Adobe, Autodesk and Procreate also give users the power to be even more creative than ever before.

The new Smart Keyboard Folio protects both the front and back of iPad Pro in a simple, thin and light design encompassing a full-size keyboard that never needs to be charged or paired. Easily adjustable for lap or desk use, the new Smart Keyboard Folio is perfect for getting thoughts down and multitasking.

New Power and Possibilities with USB-C

A new USB-C connector replaces the Lightning connector in support of the powerful ways iPad Pro is used. Incredibly versatile, USB-C offers power for charging, supports USB 3.1 Gen 2 for high-bandwidth data transfers up to twice the speed to and from cameras and musical instruments, and drives external displays up to 5K. With USB-C, iPad Pro can even be used to charge an iPhone.

iOS 12 on iPad Pro

iOS 12 brings new gestures to iPad that are already familiar to iPhone X and iPhone XS users including tap to wake and swiping to go home, access Control Center and for multitasking. The new Shortcuts app helps iPad users link together powerful, yet simple automated workflows for photo editing, video editing and file and asset management. Improvements to Photo import and support for native RAW image editing give photographers more efficient ways to work and multitask on iPad Pro.

Group FaceTime now makes it easy to connect with groups of friends or colleagues at the same time. Participants can be added at any time, join later if the conversation is still active and choose to join using video or audio from an iPhone, iPad or Mac. With new Animoji and customizable Memoji, users can take advantage of the large screen on iPad to add more personality to photos and videos in Messages and FaceTime.
